In our opinion, every dog in existence is our absolute favourite, but according to the Pet SA, the top ten dog breeds in South Africa range from Miniature Schnauzers to Labradors and different terriers. We wanted to find out why. Over the next few blogs, we will be looking at each of the top ten breeds in SA. This series will look at what the pros of each species are, their difficulties, their strengths and personalities, and what type of owner they suit.
The first breed: BEAGLES!
Beagles are a great option for a pet. They are a medium-sized breed that are fun and intelligent. They have one of the best senses of smell alongside, Bloodhounds and Basset Hounds.
Beagles are difficult to train. They can be single-minded and determined – they were bred for the long chase. Dog owners who prefer obedience must consider this when choosing beagles. Dog owners will need to HAVE a lot of patience and perseverance to train beagles, and should also consider a dog training school to help.
Beagles are great to bring awareness of intruders, but they’re not likely to scare them off. They need regular exercise and are really good with kids.
Grooming needs: Beagles are low maintenance with moderate shedding. Regular brushing will help reduce Shedding.
