Top 6 Rom Coms to Watch With Your Pooch

Top 6 Rom Coms to Watch With Your Pooch

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but we are still feeling the love in the air. As much as we love to show love to our partners and best human friends, our pooches also need a date night here and there! An age old Valentine’s Day practice involves curling up on the couch with sweets, your loved one, and a cheesy romantic movie. So, we compiled a list of the most romantic movies featuring pups off all shapes for you to have a slumber party with your pup!

Let’s curl up under the blankets and start:

1.     Must Love Dogs (2005)

Must Love Dogs (2005) – Warner Bros. Pictures

Must Love Dogs sees Sarah (Diane Lane) try to navigate the dating world after her sister sets up a profile for her on a matrimonial portal. Loads of dates and hilarity ensues. Even though this movie stars two of the most likeable faces in Hollywood during the 90s and early 2000s (Lane and John Cusack), the REAL star of this movie is the absolutely loveable Newfoundland pooch, Mother Teresa (which makes sense because that dog is a saint!)

2.     Marley and Me (2008)

Marley and Me (2008) – 20th Century Fox

If you’re ready to get emotionally vulnerable, then Marley and Me is the perfect tear-jerker. The film, based on an autobiographical novel of the same name released in 2005, stars Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston as newlyweds John and Jenny Grogan. Their journey through doggy parenthood is probably the most relatable moment in any movie, but what makes us smile from ear to ear is just seeing strong willed and spirited Marley grows to be.

3.     You’ve Got Mail (1998)

You’ve Got Mail (1998) – Warner Bros. Pictures

Considered to be a classic of the Rom Com genre, You’ve Got Mail is about an independent bookstore owner (Meg Ryan) who meets the owner of a large bookstore mega-chain (Tom Hanks) online and they fall in love with each other. However, they are unaware that they are actually business rivals. The chemistry between the movie’s leads is everything you could ask for in a rom com, making this flick the perfect addition to your Valentine’s Day playlist.

4.     There’s Something About Mary (1998)

There’s Something About Mary (1998) – 20th Century Fox

Although There’s Something About Mary is one of those slapstick comedies with a few questionable moments, it’s still a lot of fun to watch. We have the typical rom com story arch between Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller’s characters, but those jokes at just the right moments. Plus, who doesn’t love any movie with dogs in it?

5.     Lady and the Tramp (1955; Live-action remake: 2019)

Lady and the Tramp (1955) – Buena Vista Film Distribution / (2019) – Walt Disney Studios

This one is for our die-hard Disney Classic fans. Fun fact: Lady and the Tramp was the first Disney movie filmed in the Cinemascope wide-screen process, which was revolutionary for the time. The 2019 live-action remake brought out everyone’s inner kid again, while still modernizing the storyline. However, we are really glad that they kept the iconic spaghetti and meatballs scene in the remake. We also love that rescue doggos were hired as the lead characters in the 2019 remake. Whichever version you like more, we definitely recommend watching the original for that Valentine’s Day charm.

6.     Legally Blonde (2001)

Legally Blonde (2001) – MGM Distribution

What starts off as a woman’s quest to win her boyfriend back, becomes a pink-fuelled girl power movie that will have you cheering at the TV screen. Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) takes Harvard Law School by storm, with her trusty Chihuahua Bruiser always at her side, and we are right there with her. This is a great feel good movie to get past those post-Valentine’s blues.

We hope you enjoy these recommendations! Be sure to let us know if you have any other rom com movies that include dogs that are worth watching.
